Programme Suitability

The CCA is an ideal starting point for anyone interested in learning all about computers and the Internet.

Programme Structure

  1. Each Wintec CCA module is worth 4 credits towards the Certificate. To gain the Wintec CCA you need a total of 40 Wintec CCA credits and you must pass an online assessment for each of the 10 modules you choose to study.
  2. To gain Unit Standard credits an additional unit standard assessment must taken please see your facilitator regarding this.
  3. Each module has approximately 40 hours of self-paced learning and for each module you will have 15 weeks access. You have up to 3 years to pass all 10 modules although most students will be able to complete the programme in a matter of months.
  4. Once you have enrolled onto the Certificate programme by completing a simple online application, you will be given a unique Username and Password to access the Course Administration System (CAS) on this website. If you don't have access to the Internet or would prefer to do this by telephone, you can call the Booking Line on (09) 985 6722 or 0800 843 733 - Open Monday to Friday - 8:30am till 5:30pm.
  5. Once logged into CAS select a convenient training site near you and enrol in your initial classroom session. You can book a session for a specific course module or, if offered by the site you can choose to enrol in a "General Session" that will allow you to enrol in any of the available modules when you arrive at the class.
  6. At the classroom session your Facilitator will explain how to get started on the course. All the modules follow the same format. You must complete each module and module assessment before enrolling in the next module.
  7. You continue to study the module at a time and place that suits you. When you've finished the module you sit an online assessment. You must score at least 80% to pass but it is an 'open book' assessment, (you may refer to the course content whilst taking the assessment), and you are allowed 3 attempts to pass.
  8. You then select the next module(s) that you wish to study. You have a choice of attending another classroom session to get started if you wish or completing the module(s) entirely online.
  9. If you change your mind or want to return to a classroom session for a 'refresher', you may do so at any time.
  10. When you have passed 10 assessments you will be awarded the WintecActive Certificate in Computer Applications.
  11. Remember - If you want the Unit Standard you must complete an additional Unit Standard assessment. This will be held at an NZQA accredited testing site.

For further information please see the Programme Admission Information.

What will you need?

To study for the CCA modules you will need access to:

  • A PC with Windows 2000 or later, (Windows XP is preferred), or Mac with OS9 or later,
  • An Internet connection,
  • The software application you are learning. For example, if you are studying Word Processing you will need to have Microsoft Word installed on your computer so that you can practice the exercises within the course using the actual programme.

Some of the modules, e.g., Basic Concepts of IT, do not require any specific software applications installed on your computer.

Please note: The modules are designed to be used with newer versions of Microsoft Windows, (such as Windows XP), and are based on the Microsoft Office 2002 suite of applications. If you have an earlier version of Windows or Office on your computer you will still be able to complete the courses as long as your Internet Browser, (the program you are using to view this page), is Internet Explorer 6.0 (or later) or Netscape 7.1 (or later), and you have the latest version of Flash Player installed. (Click on Minimum Requirements to check what is installed on your computer.)

Some images and interactions within the course may be different to those on your computer and you may not be able to complete some of the exercises that require functionality only available in Microsoft Office 2002 or later. You will however still be able to complete the module and assessment.

Help

As you work through each module of the certificate, you will have:

  • Password access to the content for each module you select
  • Contact details for your Facilitator for support
  • Access to a technical telephone support line
  • Online Help via email from the website
  • Additional classroom time available if needed

ICDL - International Computer Drivers License

The ICDL is an internationally recognised qualification that covers seven modules of computer competency. The content of the ICDL modules within the Wintec CCA will fully prepare you for the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) exams.

For further information on the ICDL qualification and accredited test centres, contact the New Zealand Computer Society at www.icdl.gen.nz.

IC3

CCA students are offered the option of the internationally and industry recognised Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3). To do this they complete the 10 online IC3 modules and then sit the three IC3 exams. The IC3 exams mirror exactly to the NZQA approved Course "Certificate in Computing and Internet Core Competencies" see www.ic3.co.nz.

The three modules of the "Certificate in Computing and Internet Core Competencies" that are not unit standards have been granted credit inclusion for the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) at Level 2 (11 credit equivalents) until 31 December 2006.

This credit inclusion is limited to NCEA, may only be used once, and may not be used for any other NQF qualifications. The "Certificate in Computing and Internet Core Competencies" also includes 31 credits from unit standards. Because they are on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) they count towards NCEA automatically. The unit standards are 111, 2780, 2781, 2784, 5940, 5941, 6743 and 18758.
